5 Ways to Stay Motivated and Avoid Burnout Burnout can happen to anyone, no matter their age or experience level. If you feel drained and unproductive, your probably suffering from the effects of a burnout. Sometimes, doing what you love isnt enough to stop you from suffering this affliction  . Despite this, there are ways to heal or even prevent the dreaded burnout. Read below for our top tips on avoiding burnout. 1) Slow down: Something that tends to lead people to burnout is not allowing yourself to have time off, away from work.  Make sure you take time off from work regularly, and most importantly, DONT work on weekends. You need to have fun, too! 2) Set boundaries: Sometimes, saying  no can be hard. But if you want to avoid burnout and stay motivated and passionate, sometimes saying no is essential. Its also essential to set yourself your own boundaries such as leaving work at 5pm, or not looking at your emails outside working hours. Setting yourself personal boundaries will help keep your work and personal life separate. 3) Sleep more: A good nights sleep is a cure for many ailments. Its also a great idea to go to sleep earlier as it means youll feel much fresher when you wake up the following day. Once you start going to bed earlier, it will become a habit a habit thats very good for your health. 4) Talk to people: Nothing is worse than keeping all your problems pent up. If youre feeling more stressed than usual  at work, talk to someone you trust, whether that be a colleague, a friend or a family member. A problem shared is a problem halved. 5) Focus hard: When combating a task at work, focus  your time and eliminate any potential distractions    pour the entirety of your concentration into the task at hand. Quick Tips that will Help you to Find your Dream Job If you don’t have a career that is in high demand then you may feel as though seeking out a new job is both challenging and frustrating. If you want to make the whole process easier on yourself then this is very easy to do if you make the right changes. Make it Clear what You’re Looking For Before you even begin your job search, you need to take your time and you also need to reflect on your strengths too. The better you are able to know yourself, the more you will enjoy your work and the more likely you’ll be to find a job that gives you way more satisfaction. So, think about what’s most important to you, is it the money? A promotion? The work or even the location? Research your Target Company When you know what you want, you can then begin to find out which companies you should be applying for. You need to investigate a company and you also need to find out how they treat their employees too. One way for you to do this would be for you to go on a company’s GlassDoor page. When you do, you can then find out some of the questions they’ll be most likely to ask you in an interview while also finding out what you’re going to get paid (on average). Of course, your resume is easily one of the most critical tools in your job search arsenal. Complete Goals Every Day It takes a lot of time and even more effort to find a new job. As you go through the process, you may find that you get discouraged and that you also get distracted as well. If you can, then you need to break everything down as much as you can. If you achieve daily goals then this will make you feel as though you are getting somewhere and you may even find that it sets your foundation for success at the same time. Be Kind to Yourself Looking for any kind of job can be stressful to say the least. If you want to help yourself then take the time to meditate or even watch a movie. You also need to do something that helps you to truly unwind, or get your mind off your current situation. Having a good support network will really help you out here, as they can help you to brainstorm new ideas while also helping you to vent your frustration. Showcase your Skills People remember stories more than facts, so make sure that you turn your experience into something that people will remember. Did you save an entire project from going under once? Then tell your interviewer this, rather than just telling them that you worked as a team. Write Thank you Letters A quick note, or even an email will help you greatly. It also helps you to emphasise your interest and it helps you to really stand out from the crowd as well. Continue Following up You might think that your job is done when the interview is complete or even when you have sent out a thank-you note. Even so, you still need to make sure that you carry on following up until you know that the job has been completely taken. If you don’t then you may not look as enthusiastic as you really are, and this won’t be working in your favour at all. The Job Search Will Take Longer than you Think You might hope to find a job in a very short period of time, but the reality is that it might take months to find what you’re really looking for. If you want to help yourself then you need to mentally prepare for this, and you also need to really keep on pushing through. The more you can prepare yourself for this, the better you will be. If you need to get some more financial support then it may be that you need to take out personal loans as this can help to tide you over until you find a new position. Final Thoughts Having a positive outlook and a positive attitude is so important. Employers can really sense desperation and despair as well. At the end of the day, organisations want to do everything they can to hire people who are competent as well as those who are positive. If you have been unemployed for a very long period of time or if you are feeling angry about your situation then you need to find a way to shrug it off. If you don’t then you may find that you end up hurting yourself far more than you realise. What Does Integrity in Business Actually Mean Every entrepreneur knows how vital it is to have employees you can count on to succeed in business. This is why loyalty and integrity are the two selection criteria on most of the soft skill selection lists of any Human Resource department. Loyalty in business does not need further explanation, but what does integrity in business actually mean? Integrity in business is defined as: “Strict adherence to a moral code, reflected in transparent honesty and complete harmony in what one thinks, says, and does.”[1] Integrity is not always easy to measure. Integrity is perceived individually and is often less about logic and more about a general ‘sense’ we get from a person. But if we look at the elements of integrity: honesty and vulnerability, and congruency and harmony of thought, speech and action, we can begin to see not only how to spot those around us with true integrity, but to recognize and develop it within ourselves. Honesty A lot of people are in fear of consequences when they make mistakes and would therefore rather lie than telling the truth. However, failing is part of the process of becoming successful. Transparent honesty is about having the vulnerability and self-awareness to recognize that making mistakes is not bad and horrible, in fact, failing can be very positive and you can learn a lot if you take a healthy, non-critical attitude! If you are honest with yourself, you are willing to admit when you’ve made mistakes, but also not judge yourself (or anyone else) for those mistakes. You can then see what can be changed and allow the possibility of growth. If you are lying and trying to hide whatever has occurred, things are most often even worse when they eventually come out, and reputation and trust can be diminished. The more honest and vulnerable you get with yourself without keeping up any facades or masks the more self-aware and empowered you will become, and your sense of personal integrity can expand. Here are some questions you can ask yourself: Is this really true for me? If I would truly be me, what would I choose to be or do here? If I choose this, will this create the future I actually desire? Congruent Communication Have you ever experienced two people that said exactly the same thing, but one of them was clear and easy to understand and second one (who used exactly the same words as the first one), was hard to hear? This is because when we communicate, it isn’t just the words coming out of our mouths or our body language that influence what we are communicating to those around us â€" our thoughts, attitudes and actions pay an integral part. When people are aligned and in harmony with what they are thinking, saying, being and doing, they are congruent on all communication levels. They tend to be much easier to understand and work with. These four levels of communication can be described as: Verbal â€" what people are saying Mental â€" what people are thinking while they are speaking Energetic â€" what people are being while they are talking (their state of being, feelings and emotions) Action â€" conclusive actions. If people are doing what they are saying, they walk their talk. People who are in alignment on all communication levels are perceived as authentic, reliable, of integrity and in general, more easily trusted than those who are not. Integrity is important for them and most likely one of their personal core values next to other values like persistence, courage, and intelligence. All of these communication levels can be perceived with your willingness to be aware of more than what is presented at face value, they are not necessarily always immediately obvious or logically measurable. In order to become more aware of them, you can ask yourself the following questions: Is this person actually thinking / believing what she/he is saying? Often times people think they have to have a specific point of view or opinion or they need to say what their boss would like to hear. Does the person actually mean what she/he is saying? Is the person being what she/he is saying? A person is energetically congruent when she/he is present in their body and is embodying the energies, feelings and emotions they are talking about. They have a sense of genuineness in that engages you and makes it easier to receive what they are saying. Will this person fulfill what she/he is saying? Will this person follow through with actions of what she is talking about? Is this person walking their talk? The first three levels of communication will show up immediately, while the person is speaking. The fourth level will be most likely been seen at a later stage, as they engage with the people, tasks and projects around them. Being aware of these four levels of communication helps you to become an expert of knowing people. If you apply them to yourself, you become an expert in knowing you, and you may become aware of where you can increase your clarity of communication in your life and with others. Integrity is a choice. You get to choose if you add it to your core values and to what degree you wish to live by those values. When you are willing to be honest with you and congruent with the way you communicate, you begin to have an easier time engaging with the world, as well as a greater ability to recognize integrity in others around you. Seren Morris gives some helpful advice to anyone who is struggling with their living situation.   When moving away for university, everyone has that image in their head of what a student house will be, a Fresh Meat-esque never ending house party where you meet your best friends for life. This isn’t always the case. But if you end up in a difficult living situation, it’s not the end of the world. There are ways to make the most out of each and every living arrangement if you’re willing to try. If you didnt get into halls For most, not getting into halls is far from ideal, and that’s understandable. You might feel like you’re missing out on a university experience, or suffer from general FOMO of flat parties and pres before nights at the student union bar. But not getting into halls is not as bad as it may initially seem. If you find yourself in this position, it’s so important that you don’t let it get to you. Accept that meeting people and making friends might require that little bit more effort, but that you can do it. Attend as many on campus events as you can, make the commute to halls to go to parties and spend time hanging out in the SU coffee shop. It might not be ideal, but it’s not as awful as it may seem. Plus, if you look on the bright side, you get to learn how to live independently without the safety net of halls, and by the time everyone moves out next year, you’ll already have the lowdown on rent/landlords/cleaning up after yourself. If you don’t get on with your flatmates Not clicking with your flatmates can be awful. You find yourself avoiding the kitchen so you don’t have to make small talk with the girl across the hall who hasn’t said more than three words with you since you moved in. Or you find yourself outside of a flat clique that formed without you. Don’t let this get to you; remember that these are your flatmates don’t have to be your best friends. Make an effort to get along with them, such as sticking to your chores and not being too loud or inconsiderate. However, don’t feel like you have to force a friendship if it’s not there. Get on with them on a flatmate level and that’s all you need to make sure your time living together is as easy as it can be. If you moved in with friends and then fell out with them This might be the worst scenario: you were so excited to move in with your besties, imagined yourselves cooking dinner together, getting ready in each other’s rooms, thinking that living together would be one long sleepover… Only to end up falling out and avoiding meeting each other on the stairs at all costs. Obviously, the ideal situation would be to make up. But if you think your friendship is beyond repair, don’t let living together get you down. Maybe you feel like you want to stay out of each other’s way, but don’t hide away in your bedroom. Carry on living as you would have previously, or you might feel bullied out of your own home. Stand your ground and make the best of a bad situation. It may not be fun, but you can make it bearable. If it gets so bad you start feeling miserable, ask friends if you can stay around theirs occasionally, or ask friends to sleepovers around yours. Don’t think of it as running away, but as taking care of yourself. Whatever you do, don’t let yourself feel alone. Surround yourself by people who love you and you can’t go wrong. And remember: it will all be over at the end of the semester or school year, and you’ll be free to start afresh somewhere new.
